RIP Harry Kalas: Baseball Loses Its Voice

Rest In Peace, Harry Kalas.

The voice of the Philadelphia Phillies for the last 38 years died a few hours ago, and I'm in shock, incredibly saddened and a little empty knowing the Phillies have lost their voice. Harry the K was such a beloved figure to the city of Philadelphia and to sports in general that his sudden passing has truly turned many worlds world upside down, and he will be deeply missed.

Here's the video of his iconic call of the last pitch of the 2008 World Series. I'm glad he got to see another championship before he left.

  1. He was a great broadcaster. That voice brings back so many memories and such good feelings. To me, the most important aspect about Kalas was the fact that generations of people listened to him. To a ridiculous amount of people, he was the voice of the summer. I'm just happy that his legacy will go on forever, not only in the call of the World Series, but through many other famous calls, audio, and even NFL films. One thing that I think make the Phillies organization a great one, are all the things that they did for Kalas on Friday's game. No commentary for the first inning, naming the broadcast booth, the signature on the baselines, photos, video tribute, using his famous "Outta here!" call for homeruns, etc. etc. A pretty classy act, if you ask me.
